As part of the HCE works the existing ballast retention system on Slymlakes Crossing on the BAE2 in Devon was inspected.
This inspection found a number of defects were present causing the loss of ballast from the track support zone.
As emergency works VEDA Associates design a versatile system from marine plyboard and timber blocking to allow the track support zone to be stabilised behind the existing failing timber ballast boards. The marine ply board was propped back to the webs of the girders as a temporary solution prior to the GRP boards being installed.
