Project Summary
Lee Station is a two platform category D station operated by South Eastern Railway, the two platforms at London end were retained by gravity retaining walls that were constructed on an existing embankment.

VEDA Associates were employed by Dyer & Butler as Civil Engineers to develop GRIP 4 designs for the stabilisation of the existing platform retaining walls at the rear of both platforms for a length of 30m.
The design considered the failure mechanism of the existing walls and offered a contractor friendly solution for the extension of asset life of 20 years considering the limited access and site constraints.
The design solution utilised small diameter grundomat piles at platform level (due to limited access) and light weight raker beams within the embankment to prop the retaining walls to the toe of the embankment where single H-piles were installed.
The works required a set of detailed construction sequence drawings to allow the retaining walls to be installed whilst the existing platform remained operational.
