The new V-CAN from Musical Fidelity is a state-of-the-art headphone amplifier that is designed to offer absolute accuracy at an astonishing low price. The V-CAN has an ultra-low impedance, extremely low distortion, wide bandwidth and low noise. In every technical parameter it is about as good as a headphone amp can get.
Why is output impedance important?
Most high quality headphones have an impedance of around 300 ohms. This is highly significant. If the headphone amp cannot deliver the current necessary to the headphone, then it cannot provide adequate damping to the headphone transducer drive units, nor can it give a flat frequency response or low distortion.
The V-CAN has an output impedance of 5 ohms. This means that, connected to any headphone available, it will provide a flat frequency response and proper transducer damping with very low distortion.
