chumby launches the chumby® one in the UK, an affordable internet clock radio that lets you wake up to your web

Consumers now can access their favorite Internet music and information for £109.95

December 14, 2009 — chumby industries today released the chumby one in the UK, a new Wi-Fi connected Internet clock radio. The device joins the original chumby, now called the “chumby classic,” as the Company expands their concept of compact consumer electronic devices that stream a personalized broadcast of a user’s favorite parts of the Web.

“We’ve reinvented the clock radio for the Internet age and at a much lower price than our original device, while still offering the same wealth of content and apps,” said Stephen Tomlin, CEO of chumby. “In addition, we have been working with top electronics manufacturers on other chumby-powered devices for the connected home.”

About chumby one

The new chumby one is based on technology similar to the original chumby device. New features for the chumby one include: ABS plastic casing rather than Italian leather, a battery option (using a standard rechargeable lithium ion battery), an FM radio tuner, and a volume knob.

Like the classic, the chumby one offers over 1,500 applications in more than 30 categories — ranging from music and podcasts, to news and entertainment gossip, to video clips and sports scores. Content is available from well-known media partners including: Pandora Radio, SHOUTcast, The Weather Channel, CBS, MTV Networks, and The New York Times. Users can monitor their social networks like Facebook and Twitter, view and share their photos from sites like Flickr and Photobucket, watch sports clips, play games, or choose from more than 200 different clock applications to display on the touchscreen device. In addition, the Linux computer powering this “clock radio” allows for a highly configurable alarm system and powerful customization options.

“chumby has always been a great way for our listeners to discover new music when they’re away from their computers, and we’re thrilled they can now do so at a very affordable price,” said Jessica Steel, Senior Vice President of Business Development for Pandora. “We’re excited about this next step in chumby’s evolution and look forward to serving the Pandora audience on lots of new chumby-powered devices.”

New Q-TV2 From Q Acoustics Improves TV Sound

October 2nd, 2009

Q Acoustics is very pleased to announce the release of ’Q-TV2’, an ultra discreet, amplified, 2.1 channel, stereo loudspeaker system, which massively improves the sound heard from modern flatscreen televisions.

Q Acoustics is a brand of Armour Home. Their category manager responsible

for Q Acoustics is Tony Jones, he explained: “The whole Q Acoustics team is very excited about this new product because we think it’s going to be an outstanding success. In short, we believe we have a ‘world-beater’ on our hands.”

He continued: “There are millions of large flatscreen televisions sold every year, but sadly, whereas everyone agrees the picture quality they produce has been getting bigger and better, there can be few who would dispute the sound they deliver has become ‘thinner’ and worse.”

Mr Jones explained: “Q-TV2 is the perfect solution to this problem. It delivers a massive improvement over the TV’s own sound, yet is so discreet, we can reasonably describe it as ‘almost invisible’. All owners will see is an extremely slim, very stylish satellite speaker peeping out from either side of their TV. Importantly, what they absolutely won’t see, are any wires or what is probably the world’s slimmest subwoofer, at only 38mm deep. The latter contains 100 watts of amplification, plus the control electronics, and attaches completely out of sight to the standard VESA sockets found on the back of every television.”

Needless to say, because Q-TV2 vastly improves the television’s sound, it naturally improves the sound from every source connected to that television.

So, as well as ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Eastenders’, Q-TV2 will make a huge difference to the sound from DVDs, CDs (played on the DVD player), Digital radio stations and computer games. There is even a spare input for iPods/MP3 players, so these can be enjoyed as well.

Q-TV2 boasts no fewer than eight advanced ‘BMR’ (Balanced Mode Radiator) loudspeaker drive units, two in each satellite and four in the subwoofer. As well as providing exceptionally dynamic, low distortion sound, BMR drivers disperse their sound across a much wider axis than conventional speakers. This means everyone in the listening room will enjoy the same full stereo or home cinema experience regardless of where they sit.

The Q-TV2 subwoofer has been designed by Q Acoustics’ engineers to be fully ‘force cancelling’, this minimizes all vibrations and resonances from the assembly, preventing any blurring of the picture or long term damage to the television.

Q-TV2 is astonishingly simple to install and connect. Everything needed is included in the box; it adjusts to perfectly match flatscreen televisions with screen sizes from 30” to 42”.and the whole job can be accomplished in minutes.
